Randy holds the following degrees:
M.S. Loyola College - 1982 (Digital Systems)
B.S.E.E. University of Maryland (College Park) - 1976 Electrical Engineering
A.A.E.T. Anne Arundel Community College - 1972 (Electrical Engineering Tech)
He also holds several national and internationl patents
At age 8, he started private piano lessons from his neighbor, a retired Professor of Texas University (Dr. G.G. Dorn). While in high school and college, he learned to play almost all of the wind and brass instruments. Formal music education focused on performance and ethnical musicology. However, his practical music background reaches many forms of music such as classical, jazz, pop, rock, concert, orchestral, musicals, religious, and experimental. Being an engineer, he has a strong technical knowledge base, and being a band leader keeps his perspective well rounded. His focus has been directed towards composition in synchronized music and vision.

Randy Neilson regularly performs in a variety of musical groups. In addition, he is an accomplished composer with a catalog of arrangements and original compositions.
